About the Opportunity
We’re looking for volunteer sighted guides, who help people who are blind or partially-sighted feel less isolated and become more involved in their local communities. You can support someone in a wide range of everyday activities including: going for coffee, shopping or going for a walk.

We will provide you with the skills and confidence to guide someone safely, offer ongoing support and reimburse out of pocket expenses.

No matter how much time you can give you will be making a difference to the lives of people who are blind or partially sighted in your local community.

Why volunteer?
* You will make a real difference to the lives of people who are blind or partially sighted.
* Learn new skills that enhance your CV.
* Make new friends.
* Give something back to your community.

What does it involve?

You will be partnered with a visually impaired person for 2-3 hours per week for 3 - 6 months. During this time you will:
* guide your partner to take part in social or leisure activities such as walks, going for coffee etc
* help your partner establish lasting relationships with community members who can in turn help them get out more
* work with your partner to achieve clear goals that help them become independent.

We currently have My Guide volunteer vacancies throughout Northern Ireland but we would particularly welcome volunteers in the following areas:
Belfast, Coleraine, Omagh, L/Derry, Strabane.

What support will I receive?
* Volunteer welcome meeting;
* Sighted Guide Training (Levels 1 and 2);
* Safeguarding induction and awareness day;
* Payment of all out of pocket expenses.
